Can you take vitamin D while fasting?

But it's important to note that vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. This means it needs to be eaten with other forms of fat to be best absorbed by the body. So even though you can take vitamin D during your fast, you might want to hold off until your eating window when you can get better absorption.

If you're doing a daily Intermittent Fast, will taking vitamin D break your fast? Today, we're diving into the details of Intermittent Fasting and vitamin D.

Does Vitamin D Break a Fast?

Whether or not something breaks a fast depends on your goal with Intermittent Fasting. If you're looking for the gut health perks of Intermittent Fasting, then anything other than water and electrolytes will likely break a fast. However, if you're looking to achieve a weight loss goal, anything that causes insulin (the storing hormone) to spike will break a fast. With this in mind, vitamin D will very likely break a fast if your goal is to improve gut health. Intermittent Fasting helps to improve gut health by activating the gut cleaning process called the Migrating Motor Complex. This flushes out left behind food and bacteria that typically causes bloating and GI distress. When you eat/drink anything other than water or electrolytes, this has the potential to stop the Migrating Motor Complex. Because of this, you might want to keep your vitamin D intake to your eating window with a gut health goal in mind. However, if your goal is weight loss, vitamin D won't break a fast. Typical vitamin D supplements come in capsule form and are packaged with an oil - usually olive oil. Pure fats don't spike the storing hormone insulin. This means that the body stays in a fat burning state. But it's important to note that vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. This means it needs to be eaten with other forms of fat to be best absorbed by the body. What color means you are in ketosis?

When detecting ketones while on the ketogenic diet, individuals can vary as to the degree of color they “show” on the ketone strip. Any color on the ketone strip, from pink to purple, indicates fat burning (ketosis).

When detecting ketones while on the ketogenic diet, individuals can vary as to the degree of color they “show” on the ketone strip. Any color on the ketone strip, from pink to purple, indicates fat burning (ketosis). Some people get a darker ketone strip color and achieve the same weight loss results as someone with a lighter color. Your “positive” color result can vary throughout the day for many reasons. Your ketone strip color can vary depending on whether you’ve just eaten a meal (it can temporarily lighten) or if you’ve just exercised (it can darken because you’ve burned more carbs and fat). Some days you may eat a few more or less carbohydrates and still stay in ketosis yet get a different degree of color. If you drink a large amount of water or other calorie-free liquids within a short time of checking your ketone strip, you may see a lighter color due to the temporary dilution of your urine. A result of white or beige generally indicates you’re out of ketosis, however, and you’ll want to follow the Protein Day guidelines until you’re back in ketosis. (That can take several hours or up to three days.) Once you’re back in ketosis you’ll resume the Weight Loss Menu Plan. Note: If you have lost at least 4-5 pounds (2-3 kg.) in the first week of the Lindora program and are consistently losing at least 2-3 pounds (1-1.5 kg.) a week thereafter, combined with the other “symptoms” of ketosis such as decreased hunger, improved mood and energy, then you may be in ketosis and it’s not showing on your ketone stick, for a variety of possible reasons.
