We’ve all heard ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ but how many of us take it seriously? Fruits should ideally be an inevitable part of your daily diet, not just because it helps with better physical health but also because it promotes healthier skin and hair. What you put inside your body shows on the outside, which is why it is best to replenish the body with beneficial nutrients time and again so that your body is never devoid of them. There are certain fruits that hit the right spot when it comes to freeing your skin from concerns like UV damage, pigmentation, wrinkles and more plus encourage better hair too. Which are these fruits? Scroll down to know them. When we think of vitamin C, we instantly picture citrus fruits in our mind but pineapples are quite the powerhouse of the brightening ingredient too. “To safeguard your skin from ageing, regularly indulge in fresh pineapples. In fact, pineapple turns out to be one of the best anti-ageing foods out there, as it contains generous amounts of nutrients like magnesium, vitamin B, testosterone, vitamin C, and phosphorus and fibre that work together to support the heart, brain, immune system and also your bones,” confirms nutritionist & holistic wellness and food coach, Anupama Menon.

Indian Gooseberry a.k.a Amla

We’ve all become cognizant of the enormous benefits of this superfood during the lockdown, if not before. Amlas are considered one of the best hair growth boosters and also purify the blood that can rid your skin of acne. “It's a powerhouse of Vit C, boosting the antioxidant value of your diet. It helps to reduce skin inflammation, boosts the production of collagen & helps overall absorption of iron,” says Menon. She suggests having a shot that blends juices from 2 amlas and 2 lemons for best results. She says, “Lemons help in greatly improving the appearance of wrinkles and dull skin. This juice is absolutely great for the hair too and could prevent it from breaking and falling.”

Orange

If you swear by your vitamin C serums and toners, you might as well ingest some vitamin C naturally too. How? Our favourite oranges. Juicy and tangy, they can benefit your skin more than you think. “Oranges help boost the body's collagen production in a natural way. They contain collagen, which makes the skin more elastic, dewy and younger-looking. Oranges also contain lots of vitamin C, which has the ability to boost your immune system,” explains Menon.

Watermelon

“To greatly boost your intake of water in the yummiest way possible, have watermelons,” says Menon. Watermelons have over 90% of water, which is why the benefits of this juicy and hydrating fruit is quite self-explanatory. “Watermelons play a great role in keeping your skin looking young and fresh, simply by supplying water to the cells that make up your skin. They are also packed with phytochemicals called lycopene, which protects the skin from ultraviolet rays that cause sun damage,” confirms Menon.

Pomegranate

“Pomegranate has great amounts of collagen which will keep your skin looking

younger for years,” says Menon. Pomegranate is also a great fruit, very versatile since it helps dry, ageing as well as oily skin to get better. It has acne-controlling, hydrating, rejuvenating and renewing properties. Menon suggests adding these beneficial seeds to your smoothies to reap the benefits of compounds that work to increase the body's ability to preserve collagen.
